Circular Communication to Commissioners, Contracting Governments and Members of the Scientific Committee
Recruitment of an IWC Strandings Coordinator
This Circular alerts Contracting Governments, Accredited Observers and members of the Scientific Committee to an advertisement, issued today, for a Strandings Coordinator.
IWC66 accepted a series of recommendations on strandings research and mitigation from the Scientific Committee and the Whale Killing Methods and Welfare Issues Working Group. In particular, the Commission endorsed a recommendation to establish an Expert Panel on Strandings to provide guidance on strandings response and investigations, and a Strandings Coordinator post funded by voluntary contributions.
The IWC has received generous contributions from the Government of France and the International Fund for Animal Welfare and so is now able to recruit the Strandings Coordinator on a fixed term basis for one year, with potential extension up to IWC68 in 2020, subject to endorsement by the Commission at IWC67 and availability of further funding.
An advertisement and application pack are issued today and a copy is attached.
This opportunity will be publicised via the IWC website, and via a range of appropriate, professional email distribution lists. Please, could Contracting Governments assist in ensuring its widest possible international dissemination by forwarding the advertisement and application pack to any relevant regional and national fora?
Applications must be received by 17.00 UK time on Thursday 11 January 2018. The selection panel will include representatives of the Strandings Expert Panel, the Strandings Steering Group, and the Secretariat.
