Relief Veterinarian - Aquatic Animal Medicine, Mystic Aquarium, a division of Sea Research Foundation, Inc.
The Department of Animal Care at Mystic Aquarium, a division of Sea Research Foundation, is looking for a relief veterinarian to cover maternity leave from February 15, 2018 – June 15, 2018. Three to five years of experience practicing aquatic animal medicine and experience with marine mammals is preferred. The veterinary team consists of the Vice President of Biological Programs, Chief Clinical Veterinarian (will be on leave), Associate Veterinarian, Veterinary Intern, Veterinary Technician, and Laboratory Manager. The relief veterinarian will work 5 days a week and alternate on-call duties with the Associate Veterinarian and Veterinary Intern.
The relief veterinarian will provide health care services and play a key role in the diagnosis and treatment of medical cases from the Aquarium's extensive collection of invertebrates, fresh and saltwater fishes, reptiles, amphibians, penguins, seals, sea lions, and beluga whales. In addition, the relief veterinarian will participate in our rescue, rehabilitation, and release program for stranded marine mammals and sea turtles. The relief veterinarian may be asked to assist husbandry staff in animal management related to nutritional, environmental, and exhibit needs of animals. The relief veterinarian will share responsibility for mentoring the Veterinary Externs on rotation at the aquarium, as well as the Veterinary Intern.
