TITLE: Veterinary Technician
REPORTS TO: Senior Veterinarian and General Manager/ Operations Manager
AVAILABLE: Anticipated start date of January 1, 2018
HOURS: Full Time. 40 hours per week.

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Senior and Associate Veterinarians stationed at Gulf World Marine Park in Panama City Beach, Florida, the veterinary technician is responsible for the on-site, daily health management of the animals at Dolphin Connection (DC) at Hawks Cay Resort, Duck Key, Florida. The veterinary technician will also assist with any other task requested by the on-site Manager during times when no health management duties are required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Collect, process and analyze biological samples for any and all animals as directed by the Senior or Associate Veterinarian.

  2. Dispense and/or administer medications under the direction of the veterinarians.

  3. Maintain veterinary equipment in working order including conducting or scheduling routine maintenance as needed.

  4. Maintain inventory and order supplies and medications.

  5. Maintain medical records for individual animals.

  6. Submit daily medical updates.

  7. Submit monthly inventory reports.

  8. Perform water quality testing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree required. Veterinary technician certification preferred.

  • Be available to work 8:00am to 5:00pm five consecutive days per week including weekends or holidays.

  • Have flexibility for schedule changes as necessary.

  • Minimum of two years clinical experience as a veterinary assistant or veterinary technician including experience with blood collection and processing, administration of medications, and calculation of drug dosages, as well as knowledge of general imaging procedures.

  • One year marine mammal experience preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, public speaking, and computer skills required.
