Basic Job Functions

  • Assists the veterinary staff by completing a variety of tasks oriented at performing and organizing results of diagnostics in wildlife and collection animals
  • Enthusiastically represents SeaWorld by displaying a positive attitude, high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job

Principle Duties

  • Checks in samples, initiates pathology reports, trims pathology tissues
  • Assists and performs gross-necropsy exams
  • Cleans and maintains necropsy room, office, and trimming station in the lab
  • Assists in organization and shipping of samples for ancillary testing
  • Responsible for post-processing sample archiving and formalin disposal
  • Establishes and maintains a pathology image archive
  • Assists in the management of the pathology database
  • Facilitates pathology evaluations for affiliated facilities in Southern California
  • Assists in publication and project research and production.
  • Assists in grant writing
  • Ensures excellent customer service by responding to customer requirements, expectations, and needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Knowledge, Education, Training

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree; biology, animal science or a related field preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory or animal-related work
  • Must be able to work without supervision
  • Must be detail oriented and organized
  • Must be able to follow instruction and make considered decisions
  • Must be able to use and enter data into computer spreadsheet and databases
  •  Must be able to quietly work with others or alone as dictated by the task at hand
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs
  • Must have regular mobility and use of hands and fingers, the ability to reach with hands and arms to handle and feel, the ability to speak, write, type and listen
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to positively interact with park guests, and coworkers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or languages and individuals with special needs


  • 40 hours per week
  •  Hours vary based on procedures


  • Must be available 5 days unrestricted availability
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays
