Basic Job Function

  • Perform laboratory analyses to enable veterinarians and curators to properly manage the health of the animal collection in the park.

  • Enthusiastically represents SeaWorld by displaying a positive attitude, high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.

Principle Duties

  • Follows laboratory procedures according to federal, state and local regulations.

  • Follows engineering and work practice controls for laboratory workers.

  • Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, mycology, parasitology, urinalysis, cytology and water analysis.

  • Computes test results and prepares results.

  • Maintains records and enters data into computer.

  • Prepares and processes samples and maintains records for research projects.

  • Maintains laboratory, pharmacy, surgical, radiographic, medical and necropsy supplies and equipment.

  • Prepares and assists with surgical, radiographic, medical and necropsy procedures.

  • Dispenses vitamins, drugs and other supplies.

  • Assists and participates in animal care projects as needed.

  • Ensures excellent customer service by responding to customer requirements, expectations and needs.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Knowledge, Education, and Training

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must have Bachelor of Science degree in a related field.

  • Must be registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

  • Must have working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation.

  • Must be able to prepare laboratory reports.

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications, spreadsheets and databases.

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

  • Must be able to sit, walk, talk, use hands, hear, smell and have color vision.

  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once and work in a fast paced work environment.

  • Must be able to work indoors with several large and small laboratory instruments as well as refrigeration and freezer units which create moderate noise.

  • Must be able to work with limited exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and radiation. Protective equipment is provided when necessary.

  • Must be able to positively interact with park guests and co workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.

  • Veterinary experience preferred.

  • Aquatic Animal Laboratory Diagnostics experience preferred.

  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist experience preferred.

Hours & Availability

  • Must have 5 days of unrestricted availability to include weekends and holidays.

  • Hours vary.
